If you are looking for a place to train in the martial arts, your next step should be to continue your research. There are three things to do when looking for a school:
1. Find out what styles are taught in your area. Learn what you can about each style, it's dynamics, methodologies and objectives. Make sure to consider what your goals are. Your research may not give you all the information you need, so go on to the next step.
2. Look into the schools close to you that offer styles you're interested in. Find out about the facility, affiliations, instructors, teaching methods, and class schedule in addition to their tuition and other fees.
3. Watch a class or two and participate in a few. You should never have to pay to try out a school. Would you pay a dealer to test drive a car before you bought it? Of course not. If you get a funny feeling about a school, instructor, or program, follow your instincts.
Once you find a school you think you will be happy in, do yourself a favor - DO NOT sign a contract right off the bat (if you have to sign one at all!) It's easy to be impressed with only a few classes, but the true test of your fit with the school comes over time. If classes are for your child, you know how kids interests can change. Don't commit to anything longer than you know you can get your child to do.
Choosing a school just because it's the closest to you isn't necessarily a good idea. If the restaurant around the corner from you has bad service and a "C" sanitation grade, would you eat there?
Another important point to consider is your budget. While price is important, it's not always a good idea to select a school because they are the least expensive. Would you choose the least expensive day care for your child, or the cheapest surgeon if you needed a procedure?
There are many factors in selecting proper school for your family. Consider them all.
So why should you consider JKO Garner for your training needs? The list is long and logical. But ultimately the decision is up to you.
